The Pied Piper of Hamelin
"Ian's setting of 'The Pied Piper' has been an unqualified success. The children, The Bach Choir and all the instrumentalists have all expressed total enthusiasm about the work which won The Bach Choir Composition Competition. It is full of memorable melodies, finely constructed harmony and portrays the story with lots of varied dramatic touches. There is no doubt in my mind that this should join the ranks of famous works by Jo Horovitz and John Rutter as one suited to future performances. " (David Hill, conductor of The Bach Choir)
"I particularly enjoyed The Pied Piper of Hamelin. This was very accessible but also presented a good challenge for the children musically, and I thought the music had excellent characterisation and story-telling." (Sara Feldmann Brummer, Vocal Provision Manager and SEN/D Lead, Tri-borough Music Hub)
An entertainment for SATB choir, children's choir and instrumental ensemble consisting of piano, double bass, flute and percussion.
The Pied Piper of Hamelin is in seven movement and is a setting of Robert Browning's telling of the legend of the mysterious piper.
